What is Get Seen, Get Heard?

As part of Oxjam, MTV is running a new talent contest called Get Seen, Get Heard - inviting the nation's up-and-coming music stars to get involved in the festival for the chance of recognition on MTV. Last year 23 unsigned acts were featured on air and five went on to have a once-in-a-lifetime mentoring session with a music industry expert. This year we want to give even more artists their big break. Could it be your turn?

If you play at an Oxjam fundraising gig and film your performance, upload it to this site by 30 November to take part in Get Seen, Get Heard. At the end of November, an expert panel will draw up a longlist of the best entries which will then be put to the public vote in December. The most popular artists will go through to the semi-final of Get Seen, Get Heard and be filmed for broadcast on MTV next year.

Between February and May, the semi-finalists will be whittled down first to a top 5, who will each be assigned a music industry mentor and then to a top 3 who will perform live in front of a judging panel. The winning band will record a Spanking New Session at the MTV studios and will have the opportunity to perform at one of MTV’s Spanking New Music showcases next year.

TOP TIPS TO GET SEEN, GET HEARD ON MTV

We want to make sure that as many of the Oxjam entries as possible are suitable for broadcast on MTV, so here are some points to remember when filming and uploading your gig.

1.Your submission must be your own original work and should not contain any copyright music or samples

2.You should get permission from everyone who appears in the film before uploading it to MTV Flux

3.To be suitable for broadcast on MTV, your film needs to comply with UK broadcasting regulations about taste, decency and fairness. Most of these rules are common sense, but please be careful to avoid featuring:

- advertising or reference to brands and products

- alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, guns, violence or weapons

- offensive material including swearing, nudity/sexually explicit material, derogatory comments about ethnic/religious/social groups and so on

- dangerous activities that other people might copy

Think you can manage that? Upload your highlights of 2 minutes and 100MB max here ! Then write a blog entry on your Flux profile and tell everyone how your gig went.
